We’re excited to launch a new series, giving you an inside look at the hardworking people behind the barn. To kick things off, we’re introducing Dannie MacKinnon and his family, who are the heart and soul of SandyRae Farms.
SandyRae Farms is located in Brooklyn, PEI. Dannie & Christine, along with their son Alex & Katie, run a sixth-generation dairy farm. Dannie took over in 1982, while Alex joined in on the family business in 2013. They currently milk 72 cows three times a day in a tie stall barn with a pipeline system, all while focusing on raising high-quality cows and breeding stock. They’re passionate about soil health, growing nutritious feed, and taking care of the environment. As a 4-H family, they also love to teach and share their farm’s story with visitors. Farming is a demanding lifestyle, but for the MacKinnon’s, the reward is in caring for their animals and the land they love.
