Next up on Behind the Barn, meet Nelson MacKinnon of Nordale Farms Inc.! Nestled in Grand River, PEI, Nelson has been proudly dairy farming for 45 years. He runs the farm with his wife, Nancy, and son, Adam, and together they care for 80 cows on 800 acres of cleared land. The farm has a special place in Nelson’s heart, as his father purchased it in 1945.
They use a pipeline milking system and tie-stall housing to keep things running smoothly, but it’s the connections Nelson has with fellow farmers that truly make his work shine. His favorite part of dairy farming? Sharing the business of farming with others, growing crops, and providing excellent care for the animals.
